WHAT TO EXPECT

GROWTH |

During morning and evening sessions students have extended times of singing, dynamic teaching, and opportunities to respond to what God is doing in their lives. They also spend intentional time in their small groups each day to discuss what they are learning and how they are growing.

COMMUNITY |

One of the best parts of camp is the relationships. Your student will spend more time with their small group at camp than they will in a year’s worth of small groups the rest of the year. We know the time spent sharing meals, walking together, and having fun is where the magic of camp happens.

FUN |

Our team competition or “Rec” time allows students to channel their competitive sides and bond with other small groups. Both camps offer tons of activities including high ropes, paintball, archery, and a swimming pool. In addition to those activities, there are also tournaments, contests, trivia, and group games throughout the week to engage all types of students at camp.

HIGH SCHOOL CAMP FAQs

Last year we outgrew the capacity at Old Oak. Hume offers excellence of program and we are so excited to take our students to a place that is world-renowned for how they put on camp!  This also will allow our pastors and staff to be able to focus on students and leaders rather than taking time to facilitate camp.

Similarly to how season tickets work in sports, Hume offers spots first to those churches who came the year before and then opens it up to new churches. Hume had limited availability on specific weeks that was offered to us. We worked hard to be able to keep campuses together and find a schedule that worked with the school calendar. Our hope is that over the next couple years we will be able to adjust the schedule and combine more campuses together.

As stated in the question above, we had limited availability of spots offered to us on specific weeks. As we looked at our options, this was the best option for this year that allowed everyone at Bayside to go to Hume.

Bayside goes to camp based on grade for the following school year. Therefore, 9th grade students are still finishing the last week of their 8th grade year during our first week of Granite Bay camp this year (June 1-7). This led to us getting just the 9th graders spots for the following week (June 8-14).

Camp is two days longer (which we are excited about!). Hume’s base price is more expensive than recent camps that we have participated in due to the extra days along with the width and breadth of their program. Hume offers excellence of program and we are so excited to take our students to a place that is world-renowned for how they put on camp!  You get what you pay for! The Bayside rate for students also covers transportation costs, helps get leaders there, and covers additional expenses accrued in the preparations for camp.

Bayside and Hume Lake Christian Camps share the belief that every kid should be able to go to camp.

Information about camperships is available HERE

We use charter buses to travel to and from camp with one quick stop about halfway for students to stretch and enjoy some lunch.

In the registration there is a spot to request friends and a leader. Small groups are based on grade and gender. Cabins are assigned based on small group. Our student pastors do everything in their power to place students with their friend requests. If your student’s friend is not in the same grade and gender, there is plenty of free time at camp where they will get to spend time together! Please reach out to your campus’ student pastor with additional questions.

Bayside Students Staff as well as Bayside Students small group leaders and Hume Lake staff. Bayside Students small group leaders serve as counselors with each small group and Hume Lake staff is there to cover all areas.

A safe environment is a prerequisite for everything we want to see God do at camp. Hume has a safety team that monitors the camp grounds 24/7. Hume Lake is a closed campus while we are there and everyone is required to wear a wristband who is approved to be there.

Medications are collected at check in by our Bayside First Aid team and will be passed off to the Hume Health Center when we get to camp. They make sure all students take their required medications at the required time.

From the Hume website: “Prescribed Medications, Vitamins & Supplements will be dispensed by the camp health center. We consider any vitamin, supplement, or over-the-counter therapy that is taken to treat a condition or maintain health to be a “medication”. We are not able to give a medication that we cannot identify and dose from the original container. Sending medication in anything other than the original container may result in the camper not receiving it.”

Students are allowed to use their cell phone while they are on the bus. We collect their cell phones at the end of the bus ride and keep them while we are at camp. We understand your desire to stay connected with your student and encourage you to communicate with your students’ small group leader during the week for updates on how they are doing. Students will be given their cell phone when they load the bus for the ride home.

At Hume most activities are included, but some (paintball, high ropes, escape room, archery/hatchet) do require an additional fee. These will all be signed up for and payments processed through your Hume portal. The students can also bring money if they want to purchase anything at the snack shack or apparel shop.

Go HERE to make a payment on your student’s camp balance. If you’re having trouble, reach out to highschool@baysideonline.com.
